In 1990 Maurizio Pio starts to make his 'Wines of the Artist'. They are produced from our vineyard which covers 2,5 hectares. We carry out hard Hand pruning in order to have limit output and produce a high quality product. Production and quality depend on seasonal conditions. The amount of rain and the spring-summer climate influences the alcohol content percentage and therefore the structure of the wines can vary year after year. A natural grass barrier which is regularly cut separates the rows of grapes which receive no additional fertilisation. Only after rainfall are copper and sulphur utilised to prevent mould infections.
“Rosso del Lupo”. made by Barbera (20%) and Sangiovese (80%) grapes. In the future Montepulciano will be introduced and the Sangiovese percentage will be reduced.
“Mercurio” (white). Made using Malvasia di Candia (45%), Trebbiano Toscano (45%) and Moscato (10%). Moscato will be used in increased quantities in the future.
“Petra rdg” (rose). Made by blending all varieties of the grapes currently grown in the vineyard plus 20% Ciliegiolo (Cherry).
